Project TANAW: Enhancing the Future of Catbalogan City through Digital Planning

The Local Government Unit of Catbalogan City has taken a major step towards modernizing its urban planning process with the launch of Project TANAW. This project, which stands for "Catbalogan City Urban Digital Planning, Modelling, and Simulation using VR/AR Technologies", seeks to create a virtual space where users can interact with representations of real urban environments. This innovative approach to urban planning is being funded by the local government and implemented by the Samar State University through its Samar Island Geographic Information System and Data Analytics Center (SIGISDAC).

The team behind Project TANAW, consisting of experienced engineers and academics, held a meeting on February 3, 2023 to discuss key agendas related to the project. During the meeting, attendees from the Catbalogan City LGU and the Project TANAW team discussed the coverage scale of the 3D model, including city boundary and city centers. They also discussed the projection of GIS data into the model, the proposed size of the platform of the 3D model, and other relevant concerns.

Atty. Dennis Cosmod, Mr. Mark Joed Dadulla, and Mr. Roderick Ramos represented the Catbalogan City LGU at the meeting, while the Project TANAW team was represented by Engr. Raven C. Tabiongan, Dr. Vivian L. Moya, Engr. Mirador G. Labrador, Engr. Jan Floro Bautista, Engr. Walvies Mc Alcos, Engr. Dennis Manicani, Engr. With the implementation of Project TANAW, Catbalogan City is taking a major step towards a more efficient and effective urban planning process. By using VR/AR technologies, the city will be able to create a virtual environment where citizens can explore and interact with the proposed changes to the city's urban landscape. This innovative approach to urban planning is sure to bring positive benefits to the residents of Catbalogan City in the future.
