Samar State University (SSU) made its presence felt during the recently concluded AbanTeknologiya-Regional Agri-Aqua Technology Fair organized by the Visayas Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Program (VICARP). The event, which was held on April 18-19 (23) at the Visayas State University RDE Hall, featured the Regional Agri-Aqua Technology Pitch Day Competition and the Poster Competition.
SSU was able to bring home two awards, showcasing its commitment to promoting research and development in agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources in the Eastern Visayas region. Engr. Fernando Macabare, III, a staff of SSU’s Samar Island Geographical Information System and Data Analytics Center (SSU-SIGISDAC), was the 1st Runner Up under the Pitching Competition. He presented Engr. Raven Tabiongan’s lead project titled “Project 3D CLUP (A 3D Simulation of Comprehensive Land Use Map using GIS and Data Analytics Sustainable Development)”, which is an NRCP Science and Technology Expert’s Pool (NSTEP) funded project worth half a million through the Nuclear Science and Technology Education Program. The project aims to create a 3D simulation of the comprehensive land use map, utilizing GIS and data analytics sustainable development.
Meanwhile, Mr. Glyvan Albos, a staff of SSU’s Samar Island Center for Adult Education and Technology Learning, won the 2nd Runner Up under the Poster Competition with the project titled “Mudcrab Locator Equipment System”. The project showcases an innovative solution that utilizes technology to locate mudcrabs, a prized commodity in the region's aquaculture industry.
These awards highlight SSU’s dedication to promoting research and development in agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources in Eastern Visayas. The university continues to be a key player in the region's efforts to harness the latest technologies and innovative solutions to improve the livelihoods of its farmers and fisherfolk.
The AbanTeknologiya-Regional Agri-Aqua Technology Fair provides a platform for stakeholders to showcase their innovative solutions and technologies. It also serves as a venue for knowledge sharing and networking among experts and practitioners in the agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources sectors.
